KADUNA (Sundiata Scholar) – The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB), has launched a capacity building workshop for teachers in nine Local Government Areas in the state to enhance learning among pupils.
reports that the workshop, Teaching at The Right Level (TaRL), is a foundational literacy and numeracy teaching methodology that helps pupils learn how to read and write with ease.
It classifies the pupils according to level of their literacy and numeracy understanding such as alphabet identification, words formation and reading of phrases or sentences.
recalls that in 2022, UNICEF provided funding to support KADSUBEB to implement the programme in Ikara Local Government and later expanded to Kaduna South and Jaba local government ateas respectively.
Speaking at the training in Kaduna, the KADSUBEB Acting Chairman, Mubarak Muhammad, said the training became imperative owing to the literacy gap among pupils in primary schools who could neither read nor write across the state.
Muhammad stated that the programme was approved in November 2023, but was not carried out due to some challenges.
He called on the teachers to leverage the opportunity to enhance their capacity towards effective teaching and learning in the state.
The acting chairman thanked Governor Uba Sani for approving the program.
Speaking to newsmen on the sideline of the programme, the Education Secretary of Kaduna North Local Government, Hajiya Fatima Sani, described the training as important, while assuring to step it down to other teachers in her local government.
reports that the training programme is currently ongoing in Igabi, Kaduna North, Zaria, Lere, Sanga and Jema’a local government areas of the state.(NAN)
