Kano State Raises Salaries for Tertiary Institutions Staff

The Kano State government has authorized a salary increase of 25 per cent for academic staff and 35 per cent for non-academic staff in tertiary institutions, with implementation set for March 2025.

The Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Waiya, announced this on Thursday while addressing journalists about the decisions made during the State Executive Council meeting in Kano.

Mr. Waiya stated that this decision acknowledges the essential contributions of staff in enhancing the state’s education sector and fostering overall development.

He further explained that the salary increment highlights the government’s dedication to improving workers’ welfare and aligning with its broader efforts to reform education.

The commissioner also revealed that the council had sanctioned N3.3 billion for various developmental projects across the state.

He mentioned that N148.9 million was designated for the Kano Road Maintenance Agency (KARMA) to maintain the road network at the School of Technology.

Additionally, he noted that N367.9 million was set aside as an advance payment for the expansion of Zaria Road, covering the stretch from Silver Jubilee to Dantata and Sawoe main yard.

The council also approved N612.4 million for converting external electrical infrastructure to an underground system at the Government House and for relocating power lines along Ahmadu Bello Way.

Moreover, N184 million was allocated to procure two ambulances—one for the Government House Clinic and another for Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital.

Mr. Waiya stated that N348 million was earmarked to settle energy bills owed to KEDCO for November and December 2024.

He further disclosed that N662 million was released to fund the feeding of students in boarding schools for the third to fifth weeks of the ongoing academic term.
