KASU ASUU Threatens New Strike, Accuses Governor Uba Sani of Betrayal

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Kaduna State University (KASU) is warning of a possible fresh strike due to lingering disagreements with the state government.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Peter Adamu, the chairman of the ASUU KASU branch.

The union had previously commenced an indefinite strike on February 18, 2025, over unresolved matters but ended the action after six days.

Mr. Adamu claimed that the Kaduna State government had cancelled two scheduled meetings with ASUU, casting doubt on its seriousness in addressing the union’s demands.

Among the unresolved matters are unpaid salaries from May to September 2022, unpaid SIWES supervision allowances, earned academic allowance, promotion arrears, pension remittances, group life assurance/death benefits, wage awards, consequential salary adjustments, and financial autonomy.

He said the government appeared to have returned to “default settings,” pushing ASUU to weigh the option of restarting its strike.

According to him, although the agreements made between the union and the government were open to flexibility, the administration’s failure to honour them is diminishing trust.

The chairman urged the governor and other stakeholders to step in quickly to prevent another avoidable strike that could further disrupt the university’s operations.

He also urged immediate efforts to address the lecturers’ demands and maintain academic continuity.
