Katsina Cancels Licences of Private and Community Schools

The Katsina State Government has cancelled all existing school licences and instructed private and community schools to reapply under new fee structures and updated conditions.
According to an announcement from the Public Relations Officer of the state’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Sani Danjuma Suleiman, the government has withdrawn the operational licences of all private and community schools operating in the 34 local government areas within the state.
The statement confirmed that all affected schools must submit new applications to the ministry for approval.
Additionally, the government has reviewed the fees related to licence application, registration, annual renewal, and the upgrading of schools. However, it emphasised that the revised charges “should not lead to increment in school fees of the affected schools without the ministry’s approval”.
Despite the revocation, the government stated that the affected institutions are allowed to continue with “normal operations while the process of registration and renewal of the school licenses is ongoing”.
