Katsina Government Demands WAEC Cancel English Exam

The government of Katsina State, on Saturday, requested that the recent English language examination conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) be cancelled.

This appeal was prompted by an occurrence that caused the examination to begin many hours later than scheduled across the country on Wednesday.

Zainab Musa-Musawa, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, announced the state’s stance during her visit to the WAEC office in Katsina.

The government’s position was detailed in a formal complaint endorsed by Ummukhair Ahmed, who is the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

WAEC attributed the delay to intensified efforts aimed at preventing exam fraud, especially the unauthorized release of exam questions.

“Students had to write the examination at night without light until torch lights, handset lights, and security lights were provided,” she said.

Mrs. Musa-Musawa further urged schools, parents, and local communities to remain calm and await the results of the petition.
