Katsina varsity promotes 15 to professorship, others




KATSINA (Sundiata Scholar) – The Governing Council of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) Katsina, has approved the promotion of 15 Readers to the rank of a Professor.


This is contained in a statement by the Registrar and Secretary of the council, Mr Muhammad Yusufu-Abubakar, issued on Monday in Katsina.


“The Governing Council of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), has ratified the promotion of 86 Academic Staff across the nine Faculties and a Directorate.


“The Council meeting was presided over by the Pro-Chancellor, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba-Faskari.


“A breakdown of the figure shows that 15 Readers were promoted to the rank of a Professor.


“Also, 16 Senior Lecturers got promoted to Readers, while a total of nine Staff on Lecturer 1 cadre, were equally promoted to Senior Lecturers,” he said


The registrar further said that a Senior Research Fellow was promoted to the rank of a Principal Research Fellow.


“The remaining 45 staff who were either on the rank of Lecturer 1 or Assistant Lecturer cadre got promoted to the next rank, respectively,” he said.


Yusufu-Abubakar said the staff were promoted based on merit, after meeting the criteria of promotion, hard work, diligence, commitment and dedication to duty.


“On behalf of the Council, the Registrar expressed hope that the staff will continue to put in their best to further consolidate on the progress made to bring the institution to where it is today,” he said. (NAN)
