Kidnapped Ekiti students and teachers regain freedom

Eight teachers and teachers who were abducted on Tuesday in Ekiti State have been rescued.

“The abductees are here, the parents and family members are here. I will give you details shortly,” a government official said in a report on Sunday.

The state Ministry of Health officials were reportedly on the scene to transport them to Ado Ekiti, the state capital, so they could receive medical care, according to the government official.

The kidnapped schoolchildren spent five days in the kidnapper’s custody.

On Monday afternoon, as the children were making their way home from school, the gunmen shot the tyres of the bus and kidnapped them, Gabriel Adesanya, one of the school’s co-founders, told AFP.

He added that the bus driver, conductor, and two teachers were still missing, in addition to the students from Emure Apostolic Faith Primary School, who ranged in age from 8 to 14.

However, reports said that the driver has been killed.

On Monday, two traditional leaders in the same state were killed in a different attack.

The Ekiti monarchs were shot dead by unknown gunmen.
