Korea Agency to Launch Education Support Initiative in Ekiti Smart School

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is set to commence the second phase of its educational support initiative at the Ekiti Smart School, located in Ijan-Ekiti, within the Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Femi Akinwumi, revealed this while hosting a delegation from the South Korean agency. The team was conducting a comprehensive assessment of the Smart School project in Ijan-Ekiti.
Addressing the delegation, which was led by KOICA’s Deputy Country Director, Mr. Baik Kihyun, Akinwumi expressed his delight that the State Smart School would soon benefit from additional support provided by the South Korean Government through KOICA’s second phase of intervention.
The SUBEB chairman, while commending the decision to proceed with the second phase of the initiative, stated that “it would go a long way in improving the capacity of the school as well as facilitate its reach to rural areas and other parts of the state.”
Akinwumi reaffirmed the commitment of the Oyebanji-led administration to advancing educational policies aimed at strengthening the basic education sector in Ekiti State. He also emphasized that utilizing smart technology would enhance students’ ability to think critically and creatively.
Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to KOICA and the South Korean Government for their substantial contributions to smart education in the state.
He outlined the key areas of intervention, which include “capacity-building programmes for teachers, educators, and policymakers, which focus on developing the skills and knowledge needed to effectively integrate technology into the classroom, equipping the school with modern facilities such as the Digital Smart Studio, and the collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to provide training for teachers in areas like content development and the use of digital educational materials.”
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation and KOICA Deputy Country Director, Baik Kihyun, commended the state government for its dedication to advancing and fostering education through progressive policies.
Kihyun noted that Ekiti State had made impressive progress among the six pilot states selected for the project in Nigeria.
Expressing gratitude for the state’s hospitality, he revealed that the second phase of KOICA’s intervention under SUBEB is expected to further enhance the smart school’s development in the state.
