Kwara Poly Receives NBTE Approval for ND in Law, Medical Imaging, Others

Kwara State Polytechnic has obtained full accreditation for all its current academic programmes and has also secured approval for a number of new National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) courses, which are scheduled to commence in the 2025/2026 academic session. This follows a recent evaluation conducted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

According to a statement released by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Halima Garba, the NBTE’s official approval letter, signed by Dr Fatima Umar, Director of Polytechnic and Allied Programmes, confirmed the introduction of a wide variety of new ND programmes. These include the much-anticipated ND in Law, Medical Imaging, Health Information Management, Industrial and Labour Relations, and Chemical Engineering Technology, among others.

“The Board also approved the commencement of the following HND programmes, Agribusiness Technology, Crop Production Technology, Journalism and Media Studies, Tourism Management Technology, Mechatronics Engineering and Urban and Regional Planning, amongst others,” the statement said.

During her visit ahead of the formal approval, Dr Umar expressed her satisfaction with the Polytechnic’s existing facilities and academic offerings. She gave special commendation to the newly introduced ND Law programme, describing its potential to help meet the increasing demand for legal education at the technical level.

She further applauded the Rector, Abdul-Jimoh Mohammed, and his management team for their forward-thinking efforts in broadening the institution’s range of academic programmes to better respond to both labour market requirements and societal demands.

Dr Umar also encouraged the Polytechnic to sustain its progress by continuously launching relevant and demand-driven programmes, thereby ensuring that prospective students are presented with valuable educational pathways instead of turning to unproductive alternatives.

In his response, Rector Abdul-Jimoh Mohammed extended his appreciation to the NBTE accreditation team for their detailed evaluation and constructive feedback.

“The Management is committed to addressing any identified areas for improvement, highlighting a dedication to maintaining the highest educational standards,” he said.

Members of staff celebrated the success of the accreditation process and the approval of new programmes, expressing optimism that these achievements would enhance teaching innovation and make meaningful contributions to the advancement of Technical and Vocational Education across Nigeria.
