KWASU promotes 28 lecturers, names new professors


The Kwara State University Governing Council in Malete has approved the promotion of three staff members to the position of professor, alongside 25 others who advanced to associate professorship.
In a Friday statement issued in Ilorin, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, acting Director of University Relations at KWASU, revealed that the promotions were endorsed during the council’s 73rd session held on Thursday.
She noted, “The newly promoted professors, from the faculties of Agriculture, Arts, and Education, are Prof. Shehu Abdulganiyu Salau (Agricultural Production Economics), Prof. Moshood Zakariyah (Sociolinguistics) and Prof. Gafar Olorisade (Educational Administration).’’
She also mentioned that the associate professors came from the faculties of Agriculture, Arts, Education, Engineering and Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Law, Management and Social Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences.
According to Ms Aliyu, “The Faculty of Agriculture has Dr Latifat Kehinde Olatinwo and Dr Felicia Motunrayo Olooto, both Agric Extension and Rural Development specialists; Dr Olarinke Victoria Adeniyi, a specialist in Aquaculture Management; Dr James Adebayo Ojo with specialisation in Entomology; and Dr Akeem Olayemi Raji, a specialist in Food Processing Technology.”
She continued, “From the Faculty of Arts, Dr Yahya Toyin Muritala, (Modern Arabic Linguistics and Translation); Dr Yunusa Muhammed Jamiu (Modern Arabic Literature) and Dr Oluwatomi Oluwatayo Adeoti, (Pragmatics and Discourse Studies). Others include Dr Sherifat Hussain-Abubakar, ( Islamic Family Law and Gender Studies); and Dr Khalid Ishola Bello, a (Islamic Economics) were ratified as associate professors.’’
She further indicated that among those promoted in the Faculty of Engineering were Dr Olalekan Ogunbiyi (Power System and Automatic Control Engineering); Dr Rasheed Amao Busari (Farm Power and Machinery); and Dr Kamoru Olufemi Oladosu, (Production and Renewable Energy).
Additional promoted staff include Dr Usman Tunde Saadu from the Faculty of Education, who focuses on Educational Psychology, and Dr Ronke Seyi Babatunde from the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, whose expertise lies in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Also named were Dr Olariyike Damola Akintoye and Dr Abdullahi Saliu Ishola, both from the Faculty of Law, specialising in Property and Business Law, and Islamic Law respectively, who were elevated to associate professors.
She disclosed that the university council also approved the advancement of Dr Abdullahi Alabi, an expert in Comparative Politics and Administration; Dr Idris Danjuma Mohammed, who specialises in Development Studies and Local Government Administration; and Dr Ibrahim Ogirima Salawu, whose focus is Public Policy and Governance.
Within the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science, Dr Emmanuel Anyachukwu Irondi, specialising in Food and Nutritional Biochemistry; Dr Abdulazeez Kayode Jimoh, expert in Numerical Analysis and Computational Mathematics; and Dr Kazeem Issa, also focused on Numerical Analysis, were promoted.
Lastly, Dr Wasiu Akanni Yahya, a specialist in Theoretical and Computational Physics, and Dr Abiodun Obembe, whose area is Entomology, were confirmed among those promoted.
