KWASU VC laments over the difficulties faced by the university

Prof. Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, acting vice-chancellor of Kwara State University in Malete, has expressed alarm over the serious issues facing the school.

In his address at the combined 10th and 11th convocation ceremony held at the institution’s main campus, Malete, Moro Local Government Area on Saturday, the VC said, “access road to the university is not smooth given the state of the road from Shao to Malete community.”

“There are bad portions on the road and a few culverts on the verge of collapse. This road provides access to a growing number of vehicular traffic, not just to the university, but the numerous agrarian communities within this corridor,” he added.

The VC, who appealed to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to step in, stated that the institution’s growth is making the current intra-campus road system insufficient and preventing the effective use of the newly installed infrastructure.

Prof. Luqman also brought up the concerning problem of towns and individuals encroaching on the university’s land area.

The VC recommended to the governor, “to constitute a land review committee for the singular task of reviewing the status of the land mass ceded to the university at the inception and enforce appropriate government policy and sanctions to prevent all forms of encroachment,” in an effort to find a long-term solution to the impending problem of encroachment.

He urged the 16,315 students who graduated from the combined convocation ceremony to improve their environment by taking responsible acts that won’t harm the ecosystem.

“You have equally been grounded on the need to be self-sustaining. As you set forth into the world, equipped with outstanding education in not just your disciplines, but in these life skills, we are incredibly hopeful that you will bring glory back to your alma mater.

“We look up to you all to go into the world and propagate these values for which your university is known.”

The VC described the institution’s staff as one of its strengths and commended Governor Abdulrazaq for facilitating the environment which encourages dialogue and joint consideration of issues towards resolving them.

During his address, the university’s chancellor, engineer Dr. Johnson Adewumi, stated that the school had continued to focus on academic achievement, information technology, and infrastructure development.
