Lafarge Africa Plc, a leader in sustainable building solutions, celebrated the graduation of 40 women from its Female Tilers and Block Making Training Programme at an event held at the Civic Centre in Lagos.
This milestone is part of Lafarge Africa’s commitment to gender equality and empowering women, drawing attendance from government officials and industry leaders.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, Lafarge Africa provided participants from underserved communities with four weeks of hands-on training in tiling and block making, using flagship products Supafix and Supaset.
The programme aimed to reduce gender barriers in the male-dominated construction industry.
Lafarge Africa’s CEO, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, praised the graduates, emphasising, “This graduation is not merely an end; it represents a gateway to a world of opportunities.”
He acknowledged the trainers’ role in shaping the graduates and urged the women to inspire others with their skills, saying, “Lafarge Africa stands behind you as you embark on your journey towards success.”
Director of Communications, Viola Graham-Douglas, highlighted the community impact, stating, “By equipping these women with valuable skills, we are contributing to the growth of not only their careers but also their communities.”
The event included supportive remarks from Mrs. Feyishayo Alayande, Executive Secretary of LSETF, who lauded Lafarge’s efforts in promoting “Breaking Barriers,” showing women’s potential in traditionally male sectors.
Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, pledged future collaboration, while Commissioner for Basic Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli Balogun, encouraged graduates to use their new skills to uplift their communities.
Among the graduates, Mrs. Ahmed Rafat Ayodeji shared her story of transformation: “This training has completely changed my life… I’ve gained extensive knowledge about the tiling process.”
Another graduate, Favour Dickson, added, “This programme has given me the tools and knowledge to make a difference in my community.”
Graduates were enrolled in the Block Makers and Tilers Association of Nigeria and provided with certificates, tools, and immediate job opportunities from event stakeholders, marking a successful launch into their careers.
