GUSAU (Sundiata Scholar)- Lagos-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Zakkat and Sadaqat Foundation, on Wednesday, offered education support to 22 orphans and underprivileged children in Zamfara.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Sulaiman Olagunju, disclosed this in Gusau when he formally presented the finanacial assistance to the beneficiaries.
Olagunju, represented by the State Coordinator of the foundation, Ibrahim Tudu, said the gesture was part of the foundation’s project to assist orphans and children from less-privileged families to access education.
He said: “We are presenting financial assistance of Zakkat from the foundation to the beneficiaries.
“This is in addition to the annual scholarship given to the beneficiaries.
“A total of N1.5 million was earmarked by the foundation as scholarship to beneficiaries this year.
“The beneficiaries, comprising 22 male and female pupils, were selected from primary, secondary and Islamic schools across the state,’’ he said.
Olagunju further said that Zamfara was among the 19 Northern Nigerian states benefiting from the foundation’s education support.
He said that through the foundation’s assistance, many orphans and less-privileged children had been able to recite and memorise the complete Sixty Hizb of the Holy Quran.
He advised the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and shun social vices and absenteeism in school. (NAN)
