The Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area in Lagos State says it just enrolled 200 Almajiri children in local primary schools to help them build a better future.

Fatai Ayoola, Chairman of the Council, confirmed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.

He also stated that the council enrolled children who were supposed to be in school but were not, due to financial restrictions.

Ayoola stated that many of these children were born to single parents in the Komokowa Community in the council area.

“What we do is to go to that community, pick these kids, give them uniforms, bags and sandals and put them in our primary schools,” he added.

He stated that the goal was to provide these children a solid future.

“Nobody knows what the kids will become tomorrow. We also have schemes. Like in this summer period, we have a summer camp.

“The council has donated N5m for a summer camp where kids can engage in sporting activities,” he said.

He further stated that the council provided N100,000 per academic session to each Ajeromi-Ifelodun indigene enrolled in any higher institution to help fund their studies.

In terms of agriculture, Ayoola stated that it was time for Nigeria to fully utilise its natural resources.

The chairman urged youths and other Nigerians to be committed to food production.
