The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Caregiver Academy graduated its first students, with 88 joining the healthcare industry.
Speaking at the occasion in Lagos, Chief Medical Director Prof. Adetokun Fabamwo stressed the importance of bridging the gap in healthcare support for the elderly and infirm.
The CMD stated that the academy corresponds with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E. agenda and the Federal Government’s goal of increasing the number of healthcare personnel to mitigate the consequences of ‘Japa’.
Fabamwo congratulated graduating students and mentioned Prof. Abayomi, the Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, who expressed interest in the programme.
Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, Chair of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, praised the students on their dedication and hard work.
The governor’s special adviser on health, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, greeted the graduating caregivers and their families.
Abayomi praised the initiative to build LASUTH Caregiver Academy. He thanked the graduates and encouraged them to be empathetic in their caregiving jobs, highlighting the significance of patient engagement.
