LAUTECH Defends First-Class Awards to 94 Graduates

The leadership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), located in Ogbomoso, has explained the reason behind awarding first-class degrees to 94 of its students, along with others from various academic disciplines.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Rasaq Kalilu made this known during a press briefing on Tuesday held in preparation for the school’s 17th Convocation Ceremony in Ogbomoso. He stressed that the university awards degrees and certificates “based strictly on merit.”
In his words, “All our first-class graduates and others in various categories are making their marks in their chosen fields.”
“LAUTECH will not compromise its standards. We are pleased with the performance records of our students, both at home and in the diaspora.”
“As a management team, we will continue to improve on our standards.”
Professor Kalilu announced that the university is set to graduate 11,528 students across twelve faculties this year.
He mentioned that among these, 94 students have achieved First Class Honours.
According to him, “A grand total of 11,528 students are graduating. Of this number, 8,102 will be awarded Bachelor’s degrees.”
“Out of this, 94 are in the First Class Division, 2,086 in the Second Class Upper Division, 3,494 in the Second Class Lower Division, 756 in the Third Class Division, and 12 with Ordinary Pass.”
“For Nursing Science, 7 students earned Distinction, 1,741 are in Upper Credit, and 145 are in Lower Credit.”
“For Medical Surgery, 133 students are in the pass category, which indicates a satisfactory level of success in the discipline, unlike in non-medical disciplines.”
He further stated that this year’s convocation is of special significance because the school is also commemorating its 35th anniversary.
Addressing the matter of admission limits affecting several universities, Professor Kalilu clarified that LAUTECH has stayed within its allotted quota from regulatory bodies.
Nonetheless, he revealed that the university has sent a formal request to JAMB asking for an expansion in its admission quota in response to newly approved academic programmes.
