Lawal Offers Employment to 16 Zamfara Nursing Graduates from Sudan
The Zamfara State Government has announced that Lawal presented certificates to nursing graduates from Sudan International University on Thursday at the Government House in Gusau.
According to the statement, 66 students sponsored by the Zamfara State Government were evacuated from Sudan in 2023 due to the ongoing conflict in the East African nation.
The statement also mentioned that among the 66 evacuated students, 16 were nursing students who were unable to take their final exams before the outbreak of the war.
“In September 2023, Governor Dauda Lawal took a compassionate step to assist the 66 Zamfara students evacuated from Sudan,” the statement read.
Following the governor’s instructions, the Zamfara Commissioner for Education worked with Sudanese University officials to arrange for the 16 final-year students to take their exams in Nigeria.
Sudan International University subsequently sent certificates for the 16 nursing students who passed the exams, and these were officially presented to them by the governor.
During the certificate presentation, Governor Lawal urged the graduates to be exemplary representatives of Zamfara and to contribute to the government’s efforts to rebuild the state.
“My administration has declared a state of emergency in education to address the dire situation in Zamfara State,” Lawal stated.
He continued, “We are making significant progress and will continue to invest heavily in education, which is fundamental to a better society.”
The governor acknowledged the challenges faced by the students on their journey to graduation, as detailed by the commissioner. “We are proud of you,” he said.
Lawal highlighted ongoing efforts to construct and rehabilitate hospitals across the state, stressing that infrastructure is incomplete without the necessary workforce.
“You have chosen a noble profession, nursing, and as a result, each of you will be granted automatic employment with the Zamfara State Government. The Head of Service will officially confirm your positions in the Zamfara Civil Service. Congratulations,” he concluded.
