Mrs Olaide Salawu has been named the Deputy Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan by Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde.
This information was released in a statement on Thursday in Ibadan by the institution’s registrar, Mrs. Modupe Fawale.
She said this followed Salawu’s victory at the Deputy Rectorship election held on Oct. 25, along with ratification of the Board of Studies.
”This also followed the approval by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology on behalf of the Governor of Oyo State through a letter on January 10.
“Your appointment as the Deputy Rector of the institution is for a tenure of two years,” Fawale said.
She continued by saying that the Deputy Rector would answer to the Rector for managing the institution’s daily operations and any tasks the Rector might delegate to her.
“The appointment takes retrospective effect from November 1 and terminates on October 31, 2025.”
The position of Deputy Rector became vacant when its last occupant, Mrs Olubunmi Olubamiwa, completed her two-term tenure.
Salawu, an Ibadan, Oyo State native, began working at The Polytechnic, Ibadan on September 20, 1993, as an assistant lecturer in the department of mathematics and statistics.
Salawu, who was born over 50 years ago, progressed through the ranks to become Chief Lecturer in October 2010, which is the highest academic rank in the Polytechnic system.
She has worked at the school in a number of capacities, including Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and Dean of the Faculty of Science, which she had from 2013 to 2017.
From 2017 to 2021, the newly appointed Deputy Rector presided over the institution’s Sports Advisory Committee.
Salawu is married to Mr. Isiaka Salawu, a former Chief Lecturer at The Polytechnic, Ibadan’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
