A Bayelsa State High Court in Yenagoa sentenced Daniel Amaso to life in prison for raping a 17-year-old pre-degree student at the state-owned Niger Delta University in Amassoma.
The defendant was charged with forcibly entering a 17-year-old apartment in the Amassoma community, Southern Ijaw LGA, with a knife. He was accused of raping her under duress and stealing her phone afterwards.
Amaso faced charges of rape, armed robbery, and causing serious harm before Hon. Justice Christine Kombo-Enegesi.
On Monday, he was found guilty of all three crimes and sentenced to life in prison for rape and armed robbery, as well as seven years for inflicting grievous harm.
