Mercy Chinwo, a well-known gospel singer, and her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, have established the Mercyisblessed Foundation to provide full scholarships to 100 University of Calabar undergraduate students.
On Friday, July 12, 2024, the couple announced the offer in front of a crowd of thrilled students during their tour of the university.
The scholarship comprises complete payment of school tuition and other benefits that promote academic stability for indigent but deservingly bright university students.
The selection criteria, as well as other methods for shortlisting suitable individuals, would be communicated appropriately. The scholarship is with immediate effect.
The power couple’s philanthropic gesture was not the first of this year. In April, Mercy Chinwo and Blessed Uzochikwa presented scholarships to 50 undergraduates at the University of Port Harcourt on behalf of their ‘MercyisBlessed Foundation’ and their son, Charis.
For Mercy Chinwo, the ‘You Do This One’ singer, the scholarship is a way to give back to the society that raised her.
“Port Harcourt is home to me any day. The memories are fresh of a city where I dared to dream and hope for a purposeful life. I thank the Lord for His work in me and through me so far. The scholarship is to inspire students that their dreams and ambitions are valid and not to give up because there is a God who has ‘Excess Love’, ” she said.
The singer recently released ‘Overwhelming Victory’, a 12-track album she recorded while pregnant.
Before ‘Overwhelming Victory’, Chinwo had achieved success with projects like as ‘Elevated’, ‘Wonder’, and ‘Confidence’.
