MTN Foundation Upgrades 7 Laboratories at Gombe Science School




The MTN Foundation, established by the MTN telecommunications company, has refurbished and outfitted seven scientific labs at Government Day Science Secondary School in Gombe, Gombe State, greatly enhancing science education.

Commissioning the new laboratories on Tuesday, MTN director Mohammed Kabir Ahmed, represented by Ali Yaya Ahmed, stated that this was the third phase of such initiatives carried out by the MTN Foundation around the country.

According to him, in the third phase, the projects were carried out in six public secondary schools across the country, including Government Day Science Secondary School in Gombe.

He explained that the effort is part of the foundation’s Science and Technology Laboratory Project (MTNF STLP), which aims to improve science education in public secondary schools in line with their corporate social responsibility.

The director claimed that the foundation’s rebuilt and equipped facilities comprise two physics, two chemistry, two biology, and one agricultural science lab.

He went on to say that they gave them with cutting-edge facilities, alternative power solutions, and digital learning tools including laptops, projectors, and screens.

“The MTN Foundation has invested over N2 billion in renovating 102 science laboratories in 32 secondary schools across 15 states in the last three years.” , he elaborated.

In his statement on behalf of the state government, Abdullahi Usman Garkuwa, the state commissioner of Science, Technology, and Innovation, complimented MTN for the gesture, saying it will improve science practicals and experiments.

He also highlighted the government’s plans to establish space and rocket sciences in the state, which are currently limited.
