NABTEB partners with NASENI to digitise examinations in Nigeria

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has revealed a new collaboration with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to digitalise its examination procedures and enhance its ICT facilities.
This announcement came through a statement issued by Mr Uchechukwu Olisah, NABTEB’s Assistant Director of Media and Protocol, which was released on Sunday in Benin.
NABTEB’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Aminu Mohammed, explained that the partnership was solidified during a meeting with NASENI officials at NABTEB’s headquarters in Benin on April 29.
He stated that this collaboration is part of the board’s broader strategy to modernise its systems, improve exam security, and meet the federal government’s plan to fully digitise examinations by the year 2026.
“NABTEB is a foremost national examination body responsible for registration, question paper development, distribution, and conduct of craft and master craft.
As a modular trade examination, marking of scripts, result processing, and the award of certificates body, it requires a robust ICT infrastructure capable of delivering on its mandate,” he said.
Dr Mohammed emphasized that upgrading the board’s ICT systems is in line with directives from the Ministry of Education and the Office of the President.
“Strengthening the board’s ICT capabilities is even more critical given the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa’s strong commitment to functional education.
“Including his push to ensure that examination bodies adopt Computer-Based Testing by 2026 in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he added.
He also mentioned a previous meeting in Abuja with NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Mr Khalil Halilu, where the agency promised to assist in creating a digital ICT unit within NABTEB.
Dr Mohammed confirmed that NASENI has committed to constructing and completing a fully functional ICT facility for the board within six months.
He expressed confidence that the partnership will result in the development of world-class digital infrastructure, which is essential for upholding the board’s exam credibility, relevance, and effectiveness.
During the same meeting, Mr Bashir Aliyu, Special Adviser on Emerging Technology to NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, reiterated the agency’s dedication to supporting NABTEB’s digital transformation.
“We are here to support you. We are here to help you with digitisation. We did it at NASENI. This is the way forward—to help you leapfrog by relying on ICT,” he said.
Dr Mohammed, who assumed office in March, had earlier committed to leading the digital transformation of NABTEB’s processes.
He added that the transition to digital operations would help minimize human errors, speed up task completion, and improve overall efficiency.
