The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to keep his commitment to provide palliatives and buses for the state’s student union bodies.
Leaders of the students’ Joint Campus Council, Ondo axis, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua and Comrade Oluwanishola Ajibola, spoke to journalists, expressing concern about unfulfilled promises. They stated that 12 buses promised for student mobility across the state had not been delivered.
The students welcomed the recent approval and delivery of bursaries and scholarships for indigenous students, but urged the state administration to address serious issues affecting institutions.
Oluwarotimi emphasised the impact of fuel price hikes on students, citing increased transportation costs, food prices, and electricity challenges. He urged the federal government to address the rising dollar exchange rate.
Specific issues raised include unfulfilled promises of 12 buses for student mobility, delayed distribution of palliatives, and recent tuition fee increase at public universities.
The student leaders requested Governor Aiyedatiwa to reconsider the fee increase and provide financial assistance to students.
The press conference was attended by representatives from several institutions, including Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Adekunle Ajasin University, Federal University of Technology, and others.
