NANS Commends South-West Governors for United Effort Against Insecurity

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed appreciation for the South-West governors’ decision to establish a joint security network to tackle insecurity and create food hubs to address hunger.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the NANS Ogun Joint Campus Committee, Francis Gabriel, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the student association described the governors’ resolution as praiseworthy and a significant step toward regional advancement and development.
At a meeting held in Lagos last week, the governors unveiled plans to implement a regional security network and establish food hubs across the South-West to enhance the region’s socioeconomic growth.
They also agreed to collaborate on ensuring the successful implementation of the South-West Development Commission.
Gabriel stated in the release, “The governors took the right decision to collaborate on key issues such as insecurity and hunger because such regional cooperation would go a long way in boosting economic prosperity in the region.
“The resolutions by the governors, especially concerning insecurity, could not have come at a better time than when insurgents and terrorists are suspected to be flooding the southwest.
“There is that assurance that southwest would regain its enviable position in the country if the governors work in unity and collaborate on issues underpinning the growth of the region.”
He encouraged the governors to capitalize on the states’ unique strengths, including their extensive fertile land, which is ideal for agriculture, as well as their rich mineral and natural resources, for the overall progress of the region.
The student leader also called for cooperation in areas such as transportation, joint trade exhibitions, youth development initiatives, industrial growth, ICT, and other socioeconomic ventures.
