NANS Issues 14-Day Ultimatum to FG Over Adamawa, Borno Road Projects
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone E, has given the Federal Government a 14-day deadline to mobilise contractors back to the sites of four major road projects currently ongoing in the northeast region.
The Zone E Coordinator, Umar Afkawa, stated this in a press release, a copy of which was received by the media. NANS demanded that contractors overseeing the projects promptly resume work, warning that failure to do so would result in mass protests against the federal government.
The statement, which identified Thursday as the starting point of the countdown, listed the affected road projects as the Numan-Gombe, Numan-Jalingo, Damaturu-Buni Yafi, and Biu-Garkida roads.
Afkawa further revealed that the association had also urged the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to provide a clear timeline for completing the four projects. The federal government was called upon to identify and resolve all challenges delaying progress on the roads.
The students’ union leadership warned that, “Failure to comply with these demands within the stipulated 14 days will lead to mass protests in Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, and Borno states.
“The association will mobilise students and community members to demand action. It will also engage with relevant stakeholders to escalate concerns.”
According to Afkawa, the prolonged delay in completing these projects has caused significant hardship to students, commuters, and residents alike.
He added that, despite numerous promises made by the federal government, the roads remain unfinished, prompting the union to issue this urgent call for action.
