The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the foremost student body in Nigeria and the Diaspora, has announced Lagos State as the venue for its 86th National Senate Sittings and Pre-Convention, scheduled to take place from 4 to 8 December 2024.
In a statement shared with the media, the President of the Senate, NANS Headquarters, Senator Akinteye Afeez Babatunde, confirmed the event, which is being hosted by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
The governor’s dedication to youth empowerment and education has been highlighted as the reason for his involvement in this landmark gathering.
The statement read: “The forthcoming Senate sittings will bring together student leaders and representatives from across the nation to deliberate on crucial matters affecting Nigerian students and the education sector.
“This gathering will serve as an avenue for robust discussions and resolutions aimed at addressing the pressing challenges facing Nigerian students while advancing strategies for the enhancement of their academic and social welfare.
“The Pre-Convention, which will also take place during this period, [is] a critical phase in the preparations for the NANS National Convention. It provides a unique platform to lay the foundation for a transparent and democratic convention, reinforcing the principles of accountability and inclusivity that our association upholds.
“These activities will not only foster unity among students but also strengthen the association’s commitment to advocating for the collective interests of Nigerian students.”
NANS extended its appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his remarkable support in hosting the event.
