The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) approved three academic programmes for the newly established Federal Polytechnic in N’yak, Shendam, Plateau State.
Dr. Mukaila Ya’u, Rector of the Polytechnic, stated that the Board approved of three programmes, Statistics, Business Administration, and Electrical Electronics Engineering, out of 10 courses the institution had applied for.
Ya’u spoke when he received the newly appointed Governing Council of the Polytechnic, led by its Chairman Abubakar Sidiq Usman.
According to him, the Polytechnic, which was founded in 2021, began lectures with 22 students across three programmes in June of this year. He expressed optimism that new programmes would soon be implemented in the institution, as concerted efforts were underway to strengthen the institution’s teaching and learning facilities.
Regarding the student loan plan, the Rector stated that the university had submitted a list of students to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the loan.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the scheme, saying the initiative would help the students to be focused on their studies.
Chairman, Governing Council of the school, Abubakar Sidiq Usman, in his address, praised the management of the institution for the progress accomplished so far, while expressing commitment to work with the management in achieving the mandate of the Polytechnic designed to produce technical and middle manpower needs of the nation.
According to him, the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak, established with the vision of transforming society through technological advancement, stands as a beacon of hope and progress for the community and the nation at large.
He said this vision aptly reflects the intention of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration as contained in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President as far as education is concerned.
Usman said the Council is committed to setting a clear and ambitious strategic direction for the polytechnic, saying this involves identifying key priorities, such as enhancing academic excellence, investing in infrastructure and technology, and fostering research and innovation.
“By providing strategic guidance, we aim to position Federal Polytechnic, Nyak-Shendam, as a leader in technical education.
“We recognize the importance of collaboration and community engagement. We will work closely with relevant partners, government agencies, and other educational institutions to create opportunities for our students and to contribute to the socio-economic development of our region.
“Our polytechnic will serve as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, driving progress and creating jobs,” he said.
