NECO Refutes Claims, Confirms Payment to 72,138 Ad Hoc Staff
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has confirmed that it has fully paid allowances to all 72,138 examiners engaged as ad hoc staff for the 2024 School-based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
In response to rumours circulating on social media alleging that NECO deliberately withheld payment from examiners involved in conducting the 2024 SSCE Internal, the council clarified that these claims are “incorrect and false.”
According to a statement released yesterday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the council began processing examiner payments on “4th October 2024, on a bank basis.”
Sani explained that this structured approach was designed to simplify reconciliation and streamline the payment process.
“NECO has completed the payment of the examiners’ allowances as of today, Wednesday, 13th November, 2024, according to the payment plan of the Council.”
The council further noted that “some examiners submitted incorrect bank details” during the process, which have since been reconciled with the examiners affected.
Out of the “24 banks being used for the payment, all the banks have been cleared,” the statement continued.
NECO’s management advised that individuals engaged by the council should “seek clarification/explanation from it on matters oblivious to them before resorting to the Media.”
