NECO Releases 2024 SSCE Results; Penalizes 6,160 Candidates, 7 Supervisors Over Exam Malpractice

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, with a total of 57,114 candidates achieving five or more credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
During the official announcement in Minna on Friday, NECO’s Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, revealed that the pass rate for the examination stood at 67.35 percent.
Wushishi, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of NECO, explained that the exam took place between November 14 and December 14, 2024, with a total of 86,067 candidates registering for the examination.
He highlighted that the publication of the results marked the final stage in the entire examination process, which includes pre-examination, examination, and post-examination phases.
According to Wushishi, a total of 29 subjects were tested, with 83,220 candidates taking English Language and 83,024 candidates sitting for Mathematics.
The results further indicated that 62,929 candidates, accounting for 75.62 percent, secured a credit or higher in English Language, while 77,988 candidates, representing 93.93 percent, attained a credit or above in Mathematics.
The registrar stated that 70,711 candidates, which translates to 83.39 percent, obtained five or more credits, regardless of their performance in English Language and Mathematics.
However, Wushishi disclosed that 6,160 candidates were penalized for engaging in different types of examination malpractice, reflecting a 27.7 percent reduction compared to the previous year, 2023.
He further stated that seven supervisors—with two from Oyo, two from Ogun, and one each from Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi—were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, lateness, and assisting candidates in malpractice during the examination.
Additionally, he reported that 14 examination centers, comprising 10 in Ogun and 4 in Oyo, were blacklisted for engaging in whole-center malpractice across nine subjects.
The registrar informed candidates that they could check their results on the NECO official website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration number.
Wushishi expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, the Minister of Education, and other stakeholders for their continuous support and guidance.
He also announced the launch of the 2025 Digitalised Staff Annual Posting Calendar, which is accessible to staff members via apcic.neco.gov.ng/myapc.
