NECO releases 2024 SSCE results, says 40 schools engaged in mass cheating
The National Examinations Council has revealed the June/July 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination results, with 60.55 percent of applicants obtaining five credits or more in English Language and Mathematics.
Prof. Dantani Wushishi, NECO’s Registrar, stated this to journalists at the NECO offices in Minna, Niger, on Thursday.
Mr Wushishi reported that 1,376,423 students enrolled for the exam, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females.
The registrar said that 1,367,736 candidates took the exam, including 702,112 males and 665,624 females.
He stated that 828, 284 students had five credits or more, including English and Mathematics, representing 60.55 per cent.
Mr Wushishi stated that there were 1,147,597 candidates with five credits and above, irrespective of English or Mathematics, accounting for 83.90%.
He stated that there has been a significant drop in the number of examination malpractices this year compared to 2023.
He stated, “The number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024 is 8,437 as against 12,030 in 2023, which shows a reduction of 30. 1 per cent.’’
However, the registrar stated that 40 schools were found to have engaged in mass cheating during the exam.
He added, “During the conduct of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination, 40 schools were found to have been involved in whole school (mass) cheating in 17 states. They will be invited to the council for discussion, after which appropriate sanctions will be applied.
“A school in Ekiti State was recommended for derecognition for mass cheating in two core subjects and 01 Science subject. Similarly, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting, abscondment, extortion, drunkenness and negligence in 12 states.’’
He asked applicants who took the exam to visit the NECO website to view their results.
Candidates can view their results on the NECO website www.neco.gov.ng using their examination registration number, according to Mr Wushishi.
