The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a stern warning to school administrators and stakeholders, urging them to cease enrolling candidates for its examinations by proxy. The Council highlighted that such fraudulent activities often lead to identity theft and the issuance of falsified results.
In its ongoing efforts to eliminate examination malpractice, NECO has introduced several measures to curb impersonation in its exams. These include the use of biometric data capture, customized answer booklets, and the embossing of candidates’ photographs and birthdates on original certificates.
Additionally, NECO launched the “NECO e-Verify” platform last year, an online system for verifying and confirming NECO results. The public is reminded that any certificate that cannot be authenticated through this platform is considered fake.
The Council has called on State Ministries of Education and school owners to ensure that only the genuine personal details of candidates are used during registration for NECO exams.
In a further step to uphold examination integrity, NECO withheld the results of candidates involved in impersonation during the recently released 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal. This action aligns with the Council’s strong stance against examination malpractice.
