New Governing Council Appointed for Oyo Surveying School


The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has sanctioned the selection of a new Governing Council for the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, appointing Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin as the Council Chairman.
The inauguration of the newly formed governing council members, conducted in Lagos, marked the eighth such event in the monotechnic’s history.
Presiding over the ceremony, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, urged the council to not only raise the school’s standards but also highlight the achievements made in Nigeria’s 115-year history of Surveying Education through the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo.
He pointed out that the previous council had laid a strong foundation for the institution’s continued academic development, notably by introducing three new academic departments and courses, and encouraged the new council to build upon this progress and further elevate the school’s standing.
Reassuring the institution, which is led by Dr. Olayinka-Dosumu—an Associate Professor—the minister pledged that the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, would continue to receive essential governmental support, emphasizing that its advancement remains a top priority.
He expressed appreciation for the enduring moral support from the Oyo community and neighboring areas, hoping that the longstanding mutual cooperation between the town and the school would persist indefinitely.
Speaking at the event, the newly appointed Governing Council Chairman, SURV. Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, gave the minister his assurance that the council would serve with loyalty, diligence, and responsibility for the benefit of the institution.
He remarked that every member of the new council regarded it as a significant honor to be entrusted with serving their nation in this role.
“I solemnly state that we are fully aware and conscious of the fact that, through the activities of the Governing Council, innovative ideas that would enhance the growth and development of the school, its academic curricula, and administration are expected,” he declared.
He further pledged that the council would support valuable proposals from the Academic Board and the school’s management, ensuring the recent advancements in “Surveying and Geoinformatics, Cartography & GIS, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and Computer Science” are expanded to other academic programs in the future.
