NGO trains 400 Kaduna teachers on ‘jolly player’ teaching device




KADUNA (Sundiata Scholar) – In a bid to enhance the quality of education in Kaduna State, an NGO, Universal Learning Solutions (ULS), has trained 400 teachers on effective use of its ‘jolly player’.

reports that jolly player, is an innovative digital teaching device designed to make learning fun and engaging for pupils.

At the training on Wednesday in Kaduna, Abbas Muhammad, ULS Technical Education Specialist, said all the 43 jolly phonics letter sound lessons and story books were recorded and uploaded in the device.

He said ULS has been training teachers on the best ways to teach their pupils reading and writing, where they thought to go beyond that by moving to comprehension, listening skills and vocabulary development.

This, Muhammad said, was the major reason they had to move to the jolly player.

Also speaking to newsmen, ULS’s Jolly Phonics Project Coordinator in Kaduna, Ms Raheenatu Jumare, said by harnessing the power of multimedia, the jolly player aims to revolutionalise the teaching landscape.

Jumare said it would make learning more enjoyable, effective, and inclusive experience for pupils.

She added that ULS is poised in bridging the technology gap in schools and improve learning outcomes.

“Globally, the world is becoming digital, the pupils need to follow suit,” she said.

The coordinator said the 400 trainees cut across all the 23 LGAs of the state, and they were divided into the three zones.

She said the days’ training was for zone two, comprising trainees from all its LGAs, and zone three who were also currently holding the training.

She, however, said the training for zone one LGAs would begin on Friday.

One of the trainees, Patience Kaciro, a teacher at LGEA Primary School, Mahuta, Chukun LGA, said the initiative was a good one and would enhance their capacity of teaching to translate to better meaning.

Kaciro expressed satisfaction for incorporating the device into her teaching practices.

“Teaching is supposed to be fun, the device is embedded with funny and interesting ways of teaching, the pupils’ attention will be captured easily especially on the decodable stories.

“The device will make grammar lessons more interesting and easier to understand for my pupils,”Kaciro said.

Earlier, one of the training facilitators, Abdullahi Adamu, introduced teachers to the features of the device, including interactive lessons, sounds pronunciations, and assessments that make grammar teaching more efficient and fun.
