NMCN inducts 46 nursing students from Bowen University

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) inducted 46 nursing graduates from Bowen University in Iwo, Osun State.

Professor Olufemi Awotunde, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, stressed during the 5th Induction ceremony on Thursday that nursing is more than just a profession; it is a calling that calls for deep compassion and unwavering dedication to the welfare of others.

Bowen University‘s vice-chancellor, Professor Jonathan Babalola, urged the NMCN to rigorously supervise institutions offering distance learning degrees to ensure that students complete the required clinical service hours.

He was concerned that certain universities, in their quest of profit, are conducting distance learning programs for nursing degrees that fail to give students with the essential clinical exposure due to the limitations of remote learning.

Babalola said: “It is not good enough to expose our students to two to three weeks of clinical service because we want to make money, it is like we are producing killers. If you cannot do the expected numbers of the training for clinical, it is better not to produce.”

The Registrar of NMCN, Dr Faruk Abubakar, urged the inductees with maintaining professionalism and good moral conduct while performing their duties.
