NMCN Inducts EKSU’s First Set of Nursing Graduates
A total of 54 pioneer nursing graduates from Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, have been officially inducted into the nursing profession in Nigeria.
At the maiden induction and oath-taking ceremony held at the university, EKSU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatola Ayodele, encouraged the inductees—comprising 7 males and 47 females—to be exemplary ambassadors of the institution and to contribute to its growth and development.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the outstanding performance of the graduates in their professional examinations, with Miss Ogunbunmi Abisola recognised as the best graduating student among the 54 inductees.
He appealed to the alumni association, philanthropists, and organisations to support the University College of Medicine by providing infrastructure for the nursing department. He also praised the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) for increasing the admission quota for EKSU’s BSc programme, allowing more students to enrol in the nursing department.
Professor Adekemi Olowokere from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, delivered the induction lecture titled ‘The Economic Power of Nursing Care: Estimating the Value of Nursing Care in National Development.’ She emphasised the vital role nurses play in national development through their contributions to patient safety and quality healthcare.
Olowokere called on governments and relevant stakeholders to recognise the economic value of nursing care and its impact on national growth. She urged the newly inducted nurses to provide holistic care—healing the heart, mind, soul, and body of their patients—enabling them to contribute effectively to the country’s economic progress.
The Registrar of NMCN, represented by Mrs. Modupe Ayoola, administered the oath of the nursing profession to the inductees, who pledged to uphold the principles of the profession and maintain patient confidentiality.
Earlier, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Oladimeji Ajayi, expressed gratitude to Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for fostering a conducive environment for teaching and learning at the university.
