The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 25 degree programmes for the commencement of academic activities at Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo, beginning with admissions in 2023/2024.
President Bola Tinubu had ordered the immediate conversion of the erstwhile Adeyemi College of Education to Adeyemi University of Education.
Dr. Samuel Akintunde, the institution’s Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, revealed the NUC’s approval during a press briefing commemorating the institution’s 60th anniversary.
According to Dr. Akintunde, the institution has completed the full metamorphosis cycle and is now an independent Federal University of Education.
Akintunde noted that the Minister of Education, Prof. Mamman Tahir, has approved problems concerning the welfare of personnel who may be affected by the changeover.
He stated that the Minister has considered the request to make special provisions for funding teaching practice for the time remaining to smooth the transition from NCE programmes.
According to the Acting DVC, Prof Tunde Babawale will present the university lecture, while Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will deliver the diamond anniversary lecture.
He pledged that the institution will not charge high tuition fees once it began operations as a university.
“We have always had good ranking. We have never lowered our standards. As a College of Education. We started a degree programme in 1982. We have over 200 PhD holders here. Our concern has been that of quality education. We subscribe to a very high standard. We can rub shoulders with other universities. We have what it takes and the resources.
“We have been considerate in the tuition fees. We will be considerate of the fees. We will not arbitrarily increase tuition fees.”
