NUC renews accreditation for 25 KWASU undergraduate programmes


The National Universities Commission (NUC) has renewed accreditation for all 25 undergraduate programmes submitted by Kwara State University (KWASU) during the October/November 2024 academic programme accreditation exercise.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, the outcome of the accreditation was conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, in a letter dated 30 April 2025 and signed by the NUC’s Acting Director of Accreditation, Engineer Abraham Chundusu.
Out of the 25 programmes evaluated, 21 were awarded full accreditation status, while four received interim accreditation.
Among the programmes with full accreditation are Taxation, Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, Food Engineering, Biochemistry, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Physics, and Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution.
Additional programmes granted full accreditation include Special Education, French Education, Education Christian Religious Studies, Islamic Studies Education, Arabic Education, and Computer Science Education.
Also receiving full accreditation are Business Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Management, Agricultural Education, Biology Education, Physics Education, and Chemistry Education.
On the other hand, French, Mathematics Education, English Education, and Yoruba Education were given interim accreditation.
Programmes that received full accreditation are valid for five years, while those with interim accreditation must be reassessed by the NUC after two years.
Responding to the results, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, praised the university staff for their success in presenting the programmes for re-accreditation.
Professor Jimoh affirmed that KWASU’s leadership will continue to promote academic excellence, research, and community service, and encouraged all stakeholders to remain dedicated to advancing the university further.
