OAU SUG Announces Suspension of 50% Increase in Sundry Fees

The Student Union Government (SUG) of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has successfully secured a suspension of the proposed 50% increment in sundry fees. This decision comes after intense negotiations between the SUG and university management, aimed at easing the financial burden on students and ensuring a more affordable education for all. A statement was released to this effect.

The statement reads: “Sequel to the last release, in a meeting held at the level of the DSA, the leadership of the Students’ Union met with them regarding the outrageous proposition we received: a 50% increment in sundry charges (what we rightfully refer to as “school fees”) and an unacceptable 100% increase in accommodation fees.

“After intense back-and-forth deliberation, the following resolutions were reached:

OAU SUG notice on suspension of 50% increment on sundry fees

“The proposed 50% increment in sundry charges has been completely reversed and suspended.

“However, discussions on the outrageous accommodation fee increase ended in a deadlock, with the authorities failing to provide any reasonable justification for their stance.

The leadership of the Students’ Union remains adamantly opposed to any form of fee increment. We will not back down until education is made affordable for our students.”
