The management of Veritas University, Abuja, has denied sensationally misleading claims in the media that quoted unnamed family members of the late 100 Level student, Mr. Joshua Daniel, as alleging he was stabbed.
Ben Agande, the University’s spokesperson, expressed regret over the student’s death but stated that the University is willing and ready to fund the cost of any autopsy that may be conducted to ascertain the probable cause of death.
In a previous statement, Agande stated that the student slumped and died on April 30, 2024, while exercising in the University Gymnasium.
Reacting to the alleged misleading publication on the cause of the death of the student, Agande insisted that there was no wound on the body of the deceased student when his corpse was handed over to his father.
He said: “Our attention has been drawn to sensationally misleading reports in a section of the media, quoting unnamed family members of our late student as saying that he was reported stabbed.
“While we at Veritas University extend our deep condolences to the parents and family members of our late student, we want to caution our colleagues in the media to desist from sensational reporting.
“However, we want to clarify as follows: The late student had no stab wound whatsoever before his evacuation from our medical facility to a bigger medical facility.
“His corpse was handed over to the father in that pristine state. Veritas University will fully cooperate with the police and all relevant authorities as they carry out their investigations.
“The University is willing and ready to bear the cost of any autopsy that may be carried out to determine the probable cause of his death,” he stated.
