Parents request Oborevwori’s intervention over increase in technical school boarding fees

Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori

Parents of Delta State-owned technical schools have urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to reconsider the recent boarding fees increase from ₦85,000 to ₦250,000 per term.

The parents addressed their worries, noting financial difficulties and questioning the logic for the steep increase, especially because Federal Government Colleges, some private schools, and Delta State-owned model secondary schools charge significantly less.

In an open appeal, the parents asked the governor to clarify if the fee increase was approved by his office or executed by the Ministry of Technical Education without his permission. They also noted out that the state-owned government model secondary schools and colleges charge N60,000, but some private schools in the state capital, Asaba, charge ₦150,000, while similar schools in Lagos charge around ₦100,000 as boarding fees.

A teacher at Ofagbe Technical School, speaking anonymously, raised worry over recent fee increases imposed by the Ministry of Technical Education. He stated that the annual fee for junior and senior classes increased from N1,850 to N3,400, with an extra N15,000 required for medical and administrative costs.
