Petroleum Training Institute Matriculates 1,625 New Students

The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has officially admitted 1,625 students into its 2024/2025 academic session, urging them to uphold good conduct.

The matriculation ceremony took place on Friday in Effurun, Delta, and included students from both the full-time program and the School of Industrial Continuing Education Programme.

During his speech to the newly admitted students, Dr. Samuel Onoji, the principal and chief executive of PTI, encouraged them to maintain good character throughout their stay at the institute.

While congratulating the new students, Onoji emphasized that the institute strictly prohibits social vices.

He listed some of these social vices as examination misconduct, physical and sexual assault, indecent dressing, prostitution, cultism, stealing, certificate forgery, bullying, and harassment.

Onoji advised the students to stay committed and focused, embrace curiosity and innovation, demonstrate respect and responsibility, and actively participate in extracurricular activities at the institute.

Additionally, he urged them to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative introduced by the federal government to help with financial challenges.

He mentioned that the institute received its first NELFUND disbursement on February 11, 2025, and confirmed that the beneficiaries had already received their payments.

The PTI leader reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to training skilled professionals to meet the needs of the oil and gas sector.

“Today marks a significant milestone in your academic journey, and I am delighted to share this experience with you.”

He highlighted that PTI has built international partnerships that strengthen its curriculum, facilities, and industry-relevant research to bridge skill gaps in the oil sector.

“PTI has established international collaborations and partnership that enhance our curriculum, facilities, and research capabilities that are industry-focused and aligned with the industry to address identified skill gaps in the oil sector.”

He further stated that the institute’s programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and expertise required to excel in the highly technical and evolving oil and gas industry.

“Our programmes are designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to excel in dynamic and highly technical fields,” he said.

Onoji urged the students to uphold the highest standards of behavior, respect, and integrity in compliance with the institute’s rules and regulations.

He stressed the need for hard work and dedication, pointing out that the oil and gas sector is highly competitive and constantly evolving.

He assured the students that the campus fosters a safe and inclusive learning environment that supports both academic and personal development.

Additionally, he reassured parents of the newly admitted students that the institute is dedicated to offering an environment that promotes academic success, personal growth, and strong moral values.

One of the new students, Mr. Monday Ejiroghene, expressed gratitude to his parents and the institute for the opportunity and pledged to uphold good behavior to justify the trust placed in him
