PLATEAU (Sundiata post) – Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on Thursday opened bid for the award of contracts for the construction and renovation of 258 classrooms and other projects across the 17 local government areas of the state.
Speaking at the event in Jos, Chiarman of the board, Mr Sunday Amuna, said that the projects were part of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) projects for 2021; 3rd and 4th, and 2022; 1st to 4th quarters respectively.
Represented by Mrs Chudung Shom, Permanent member 1 in the board, Amuna said that the projects also consist of 68 stores, 68 offices, two Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrines, nine boreholes, among others.
According to the Chairman, the bid opening was aimed at ensuring due process and transparency in the award of contracts.
“This exercise is to ensure transparency and due process is followed in the award of the contracts by SUBEB.
“Today we are bidding for projects and this include construction and renovation of classrooms, VIP latrines, boreholes,
“These projects which is part of the 2021; 3rd and 4th, and 2022; 1st to 4th quarters of UBEC intervention, will be executed in various public primaries schools across the 17 local government areas of the state,” he said.
Amuna urged contractors who would be successful, to execute the project according to specifications, adding that the board would not hesitate to sanction erring ones.
He further warned contactors to desist from executing shoddy and substandard projects, insisting that government want value for its money, hence would not tolerate any act indiscipline from contractors.
“Successful contractors should note that they must execute these projects according to specification. Don’t do anything outside the specification.
“So, government and indeed the board will not tolerate and accept substandard job from any contractor, because it want value for its money.
“We will not think twice before revoking contracts that we think the contractors are not performing,” he added.
The chairman called on community members where these projects are domiciled, to cooperate with the contractors to ensure smooth execution and completion of the projects.
The chairman thanked the Gov. Caleb Mutfwang for releasing the counterpart funds that enabled the board access over N3 billion from UBEC for the execution of the projects.
Also, Mrs Augustina Sanche, UBEC Coordinator in Plateau, warned successful contractors against absconding from sites.
”I want to appeal to our contractors to execute these projects for the sake of the children of Plateau,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the contractors, Mr Daniel Sule, thanked the board for the allowing them bid for the projects.
He promised that successful contractors would execute the projects within specifications.(NAN)
