Poly alumni lament the hostel crisis in public institutions

The Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti Alumni Association has lamented the housing crisis in public tertiary schools, claiming that it is negatively affecting students’ life in a number of ways.

In his plea for government intervention, the association’s national president, Dr. Oyedokun Abiodun, stated that the dearth of hostel space, which he characterised as a widespread issue in the majority of Nigeria’s public tertiary institutions, “significantly impacts the non-resident students, affecting not only their academic pursuits but also various aspects of their lives.”

Speaking on Friday in Ado Ekiti, Abiodun announced that the alumni association has given two new hostel blocks for student usage to the school administration, which is headed by the rector, Dr. Temitope Alake.

The two blocks of hostels were named after two old students – the pioneer National President of the alumni association and immediate past Rector of the institution, Dr Hephzibah Oladebeye, and a deceased member, Mrs Rita Aboloma.
