Polytechnic Students Support Tinubu’s Decision on Rivers State Emergency Rule

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu’s recent move to impose a state of emergency in Rivers State.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna, signed by NAPS National President Eshiofune Oghayan, the association, which represents over 28.1 million Nigerian students, emphasized that this measure is necessary to restore law and order, improve governance, and safeguard citizens in the state.

“We applaud the decisive intervention by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State. This bold decision is crucial for maintaining peace, stabilizing governance, and restoring security in a region that has faced significant political and institutional challenges,” the statement noted.

NAPS stressed that President Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency was not made arbitrarily but is based on constitutional provisions. The association pointed to Section 305 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, which grants the President the authority to impose a state of emergency under specific conditions.

The student body encouraged the people of Rivers State to remain calm and cooperate with the interim administration, emphasizing that the main objective of this action is to promote peace and progress in the region.

“We pray for a swift restoration of peace and stability in Rivers State,” NAPS concluded in their statement.
