Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO), Edo State, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, yesterday, called on the Federal Government to promote the development of private universities in the country by allowing them be beneficiary in the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) intervention project.
Ezemonye emphasised the necessity for government help in the area of intervention for private institutions during a press conference in Okada, Edo State, ahead of events honouring the institution’s 25th anniversary celebration.
He stated: “Private universities deserve a portion of TETFUND intervention and support.”
He claimed that government assistance will go a long way towards alleviating some of the issues that private universities have experienced over the years.
The first prestigious private university in Nigeria, Igbinedion University Okada, has produced exceptional graduates in a variety of human endeavours who are making their share of contributions to both national and global development, according to Ezemonye. The institution has also built capacity and engaged in innovative studies.
He claims that among the events scheduled to commemorate the epoch-making celebration are the commissioning of legacy projects and the 25th Anniversary Colloquium.
The VC further stated that the colloquium’s topic will be tertiary education in Africa within the context of today’s dynamic globalised knowledge economy and tech-driven world.
