Qatar to sponsor the education of 1,000 orphans in Borno
The Qatar Charity Organisation will finance the education of 1,000 orphans in Borno.
The ambassador of the State of Qatar to Nigeria, Ali-bin Ghanem Al-Hajri, made the announcement on Thursday in Maiduguri during a courtesy visit to Borno Governor Babagana Zulum.
Mr. Al-Hajri emphasised the Qatari government’s commitment to strengthening relations with Nigeria. He also stated that Borno, which holds a significant position in Islamic history, would be helped as it recovered from the violence.
In his answer, Mr Zulum praised Qatar for its assistance, adding that the country had provided food to displaced people two months ago.
Mr Zulum said Qatar’s multi-million naira project in Borno this year is appropriate as the state recovers from a 15-year insurgency that has killed over 300,000 people and displaced 3.5 million more.
He informed Qatar that the state government was committed to the successful implementation of humanitarian projects that would benefit the people.
While in Maiduguri, the ambassador presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for an orphanage school and gave a lecture at the Nigeria Arabic Language Village in Ngala.
