Rainstorm Kills Student, Damages School in Ogun


A 14-year-old student, Timothy Amosun, who was in Junior Secondary School 3, lost his life after a rainstorm caused severe damage to Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School in Ilase, Ogun State.
The Ogun State government confirmed the unfortunate incident on Wednesday through an official statement issued by Mr. Lekan Adeniran, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), five other students, two teachers, a food vendor, and her seven-month-old baby sustained injuries during the tragic event.
The governor expressed his condolences to the victims of the rainstorm, which led to the collapse of the school building in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.
He described the occurrence as a devastating shock and a painful tragedy for both the affected families and the entire community.
“We pray God grants the family of the deceased the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss,” the governor stated.
He reassured the public that the Ogun State government would take responsibility for the medical expenses of those who were injured in the disaster.
Furthermore, the governor directed that critically injured victims be transferred to specialist hospitals within and outside Ogun State to receive thorough medical treatment.
In addition, Abiodun instructed the Commissioner for Education to visit the families of the victims and evaluate the extent of the damage in order to expedite the reconstruction of the school.
