RECTEM matriculates first set of students for Higher National Diploma programme

Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM) has reached another milestone with the recent matriculation of its first group of students for Higher National Diploma programmes.

The institution, which had previously only offered National Diploma courses and had met all of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) requirements, matriculated students for its Higher National Diploma programmes on Tuesday, April 16th, during its 6th matriculation ceremony held at the college premises in Redemption City of God, Mowe, Ogun.

Speaking during the matriculation ceremony, the Rector of RECTEM, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Mofunaya said the event is a statutory academic exercise that marks the official acceptance of freshmen into various departments of the institution, signified by the admission of oath swearing and signing of the Matriculation Register.

Thus, they would be recognised as bonafide students of the college, entitled to all rights and privileges.

She also revealed that the Colleges matriculated 303 students this time, who were enrolled in National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes from the Colleges’ four schools: the School of Engineering Technology, the School of Environmental Studies, the School of Management Studies, and the School of Science and Technology.

Mofunaya said, “There are equipment we have here that most of the institutions that have been exiting for over 50 years do not have. We have had Corp members come here and they say, yes, in their schools, they were taught theories but coming to RECTEM, they have seen things done practically, seeing equipment that they only saw the photographs in their handout but at RECTEM, they saw it for real.”

Mofunaya added that the students who were admitted to pursue HND courses also came from other institutions aside from OND students from RECTEM, stating that they had to go through thorough screening before they were allowed to join RECTEM students for the HND courses.

In his goodwill messages, the Ogun State Coordinator, JAMB, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Abdulhameed, commended RECTEM for adhering strictly to the rules of the board.

He said, “JAMB does not attend any matriculation ceremony of an intuition that is not in conformity with the rules. JAMB admission is automated, and all institutions are compelled to follow these rules.”

Speaking further he said, “My task here is very simple, it is constitutional and mandatory and whenever there is a programme like this, we attend, observe and report accordingly. But before now, from our records, we saw that RECTEM has been complying with the rules.”

“It will not be fair to say what is not because JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede has zero tolerance for indiscipline. All the admissions were conducted in line with the central admission process, so I am assuring parents that RECTEM has been following the rules and I urge the management of this institution to continue so that all these students will have good prospects at the end of their programmes,” Abdulhameed added.

He commended the RECTEM rector for her great work, adding, “If she was not doing a good job, the institution wouldn’t have achieved this feat. And all the courses the College is offering at the moment are all accredited.”
