An 11-year-old student, Chigozie Anyichie, was killed in a fire outbreak at the Patterson Memorial Grammar School, Awada, Onitsha, Anambra State on Sunday. According to reports, the students were out in the field for night prayers when the incident occurred.
Before the fire was put out by staff, it had already destroyed a better section of the dormitory, it was later discovered that the 11 years old Chigozie Anyichie didn’t join the other students for prayer and got burnt beyond recognition.
Although, the corpse has been taken to the mortuary, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertain. Meanwhile, the spokesman of the state police command, Mohammed Haruna, who confirmed the incident, said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Abang, has commiserated with the family of the deceased and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
