The parents of Ojiyovwin Salvation, a Primary 2 student at Eghereka Primary School in Ewu town in Delta State’s Ughelli South Local Government Area, are devastated by his untimely death.
Salvation died unexpectedly yesterday when a block of six classrooms collapsed on him and injured three others.
According to reports, the old building collapsed due to heavy rainfall.
The block of six classrooms, which lacked a roof, was stated to be unoccupied just as timely actions led to the rescue of the remaining students.
Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta State Governor, has expressed his sympathies to the family of the deceased student.
The commiseration was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, who described the incident as most unfortunate.
“We have just received a report of an unfortunate incident. The Governor commiserates with the family of the deceased pupil, the management and staff of the school, as well as other pupils injured in the unfortunate incident,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori praised the prompt efforts that resulted in the quick rescue of the injured pupils and stated that the Local Government Council Chairman, Dr Lucky Avweromre, had visited the scene to provide necessary support to the surviving victims of the building collapse, as well as the family of the deceased pupil.
He noted that words were unable to adequately comfort the bereaved family for their tragic loss and prayed that God Almighty would grant the families, school, and community the courage to suffer the irreparable loss and that God’s consoling presence would comfort them in these trying times.
